Join Our Board of Trustees

Board of Trustee Vacancy

Asda Foundation is Asda Stores independent charitable Foundation. We are seeking to expand and diversify the membership of the Board of Trustees. We are looking to appoint several new trustees to join our dynamic board who currently do not have a connection to the Asda business.

Our grants support grassroots organisations in all communities across the UK. We work with groups from all walks of life. Recent applications include youth education projects, elderly activity groups, religious and non-faith groups, disability groups, mental health awareness, pride events, domestic abuse and refugee groups. If a group is bringing people together in their community and making a difference to people’s lives, we can support.

What we are looking for

As we seek to diversify our board of trustees, we are particularly encouraging applications from a diverse range of ages, ethnic backgrounds and lived experiences to enable us to reflect the diverse nature of our beneficiaries.

Additionally, from a skill perspective, we would particularly welcome applications from people who have experience in grant making, corporate foundations, safeguarding and marketing. But please don’t be put off applying if you don’t have this experience.

Time Commitment: Quarterly board meetings (2hrs), plus pre reading time. We also have sub committees with delegated authority to focus on priority projects (approx. 1 hr a month). Occasionally, addition zoom calls in response to a community need/emerging crisis as and when required. We also encourage trustees to be part of our grant community with group visits.

Meeting Location: Asda Foundation is based in Leeds, however participation in board meetings can be made remotely via zoom.

Role of Trustee

Our Trustees play a pivotal role in the charity. You will share the responsibility for governing the Foundation, ensuring it remains legal, setting the strategic direction of the charity and how it is managed and run. (We can provide further information and training as required).

This is an opportunity for an individual to help shape the future of the charity. This role is not remunerated but reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed.

We may also ask trustees to support the operational team with projects the trustee may have previous experience in or a passion to develop and help that idea become a reality.

Personal Specification

We are looking for passion and commitment from people who believe in empowering communities to be resilient. You do not need any previous experience in being a trustee but a willingness to learn is essential.

You will bring to the role:

  • Passion for grass roots community development

  • Commitment to ensure we consider the needs of communities

  • A willingness to share your opinion

  • Clear thinking with strong analytical skill

  • A team player

  • Multi-year commitment to the Foundation and willingness to devote time and energy into the mission

  • Enthusiasm to go out into the community and visit projects
