Last month, we announced over £1.2 million of funding to transform community spaces in 65 communities across the UK. Investing in Spaces and Places grants range from £10,000 – £25,000, with funding used for renovations, repairs, or the transformation of outdoor spaces.
One of the groups successful in their application was St Leonard’s Episcopal Church. They received a grant for £20,000 via Asda Straiton to transform their space into a community hub, including installing a toilet and kitchen to ensure the building is welcoming and functional for all users.
“We can’t wait to see the hub transform and the impact this will have on the local community!”
Claire, Community and Customer Champion, Straiton
The group, who host a variety of activities for the community, from dance classes to toddler groups, were visited by local Community and Customer Champion, Claire, to celebrate their success!
“Midlothian is one of the fastest and largest growing communities in Scotland but lots of public community facilities have closed, creating a need for accessible and affordable spaces for community groups to operate out of. We’re delighted to receive funding from The Asda Foundation. It will enable us to provide a sense of community cohesion and appropriate space for people to meet, helping to reduce social isolation and provide activities for a wide range of people and ages.”
