Investing in Spaces and Places –  Stuartfield Village Hall SCIO

September 9th, 2025

Stuartfield Village Hall SCIO has successfully completed a project supported by our Investing in Spaces and Places grant, aimed at improving the energy efficiency and usability of this vital community facility.

The hall, managed by a volunteer committee, serves as a central hub for Stuartfield and the surrounding area. It hosts a wide range of activities for all age groups, including the Stuartfield Pre-School group – an Early Learning and Childcare setting for children aged 2½ to 5 – alongside weekly parent and toddler sessions, Rainbows, Brownies, and Broadway Boogie Kids. It’s a place where young families can find support, friendship, and fun.

Adults in the community also benefit from a variety of weekly classes and hobby groups, including Pilates with Wyse Nutrition, Highland Hustle, Broadway Boogie, and even remote control car racing. The hall also plays host to cherished local events such as school and nursery concerts and the annual Village Flower Show.

The project was initiated in response to significant structural issues that had developed. The hall had suffered from major internal damage due to water ingress caused by a deteriorating roof, loose stonework, and rotten windows. Temporary repairs were carried out to keep the building operational, but the condition of the roof slates, ridge stonework, and bell tower had become a serious safety concern. Without intervention, there was a real risk of closure, which would have had a major impact on the community.

This funding enabled the replacement of old windows and doors, significantly improving insulation and comfort for users throughout the year. These upgrades ensure the hall can continue to be a vibrant, accessible, and sustainable space for years to come – bringing people together and strengthening the bonds that make this rural community so special.

The Asda Foundation is proud to support projects like this that strengthen local infrastructure and bring people together.
