MyColdhurst: Continuing to Empower and Celebrate the Community

July 8th, 2025

Following the success of their previous Investing in Spaces and Places funding, MyColdhurst has continued to make a meaningful impact in their local area—one of the most deprived wards in the country. With further support from the Asda Foundation, the group has launched two new initiatives that build on their mission to empower residents and foster pride in their neighbourhood.

Kicking Down Barriers: Football for Young Women

With £1,000 received from our Young Futures Fund, MyColdhurst is launching a new initiative to bring football sessions to young girls and women aged 14 to 21—a group often excluded from the sport due to cultural taboos and lack of access.

In a community where leisure opportunities are scarce, this funding will cover the hire of a local sports pitch and a female football coach, creating a safe, respectful, and empowering space for young women to thrive. The sessions will prioritise privacy, dignity, and inclusion, helping participants build confidence, improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and connect with others who share their passion.

It’s more than just football—it’s about giving young women the chance to feel seen, supported, and strong.

Celebrating Community: Family Curry Night & Eid Celebration

Another £1,000 funding received from our Celebrating Communities Fund supported a vibrant Families Curry Night and Eid Celebration, bringing together over 100 local residents to thank local residents, especially young people, for their contributions to MyColdhurst’s projects.

The event featured:

  • A BBQ and shared meal
  • Activities, including a magician
  • Attendance from Asda Chadderton’s Community and Customer Champion and Store Manager

It was a joyful celebration of good food, shared stories, and community pride, bringing together neighbours who’ve helped transform alleyways, joined litter picks, and taken part in youth activities.

Little Green Spaces, Big Impact

MyColdhurst’s ongoing alleyway transformation project—also supported by the Asda Foundation—continues to bloom. With new flower beds now installed, these once-neglected spaces are becoming vibrant community hubs where children can play and residents can relax. Photos of the latest transformations show just how much care and creativity has gone into every corner.

Love Where You Live: A Shared Vision

Asda’s July community theme, “Love Where You Live,” is perfectly reflected in MyColdhurst’s work. From litter picks and alleyway clean-ups to football sessions and community celebrations, this group of volunteers is showing what’s possible when people come together to care for their neighbourhood.

MyColdhurst is a group of community volunteers who truly believe in empowering their area by loving where they live. Their work proves that when people come together with a shared purpose, even the smallest spaces can become places of pride.
