Investing in Spaces and Places – Bath Shed

March 27th, 2026

At Asda Foundation, we’re proud to support spaces that bring people together and strengthen local connections. In 2024 we awarded Bath Shed, based at Bath City Farm, a £15,000 Investing in Spaces and Places grant (now called Local Community Spaces) from our Trowbridge store to help complete their new workshop for older adults.

Bath Shed is a welcoming community group for people over 50 who may be experiencing loneliness or isolation. Part of the Men’s Shed movement, the shed is open to all genders and offers handson activities such as woodwork and practical projects that build confidence, friendships, and a sense of purpose.

After losing their citycentre workshop at the end of 2023, the group faced growing demand but had nowhere suitable to meet. Working with Bath City Farm, the group created a new workshop structure on the farm site. The final stage involved fitting out the inside with lighting, electrics, heating connections, plumbing, tool storage, and workbenches so they could run three weekly sessions for up to 30 adults.

Our Investing in Spaces and Places grant made this final phase possible. With Asda Foundation funding, Bath Shed completed essential electrical and plumbing work, transforming an empty container into a safe, warm, and fully equipped workshop.

The space is now open and already making a difference.

Having this space has made a huge difference to our community members. We can meet, be together, work on projects and give back to our amazing community. We’re currently in discussion with a local playgroup with plans to build some outdoor play equipment.

We’re delighted to see the workshop up and running and look forward to all the creativity, skills, and connections it will inspire for years to come.
