Local Community Spaces Fund – Crossroads Youth and Community Association

Crossroads Youth and Community Association has been awarded £15,000 through our Local Community Spaces Fund via Asda Toryglen to carry out essential repairs and improvements to The Barn, a much-valued community centre in Glasgow’s Gorbals.

The funding will support vital building repairs, including roof repairs, brickwork restoration and remedial work to areas affected by damp and water ingress. These improvements will help create a healthier, safer and more accessible environment for the many people who rely on the centre each week.

Crossroads Youth and Community Association has been supporting the local community for more than 60 years, working with children, young people, families and residents across the Greater Gorbals area. From The Barn community centre, the organisation provides a welcoming place where people can access support, take part in activities and build meaningful connections with others.

The centre plays an important role in community life, welcoming around 250 visitors each week and hosting a range of local groups and services, including family support sessions, recovery groups, toddler activities and community meetings.

Years of wear, damp and water ingress have impacted several areas of the building, affecting some of the spaces used by local residents and community groups. By investing in essential repairs now, the project will help protect this important community asset and ensure it remains fit for purpose long into the future.

Once completed, the improvements will help Crossroads continue its work bringing people together, reducing isolation and creating opportunities for local people to access support and take part in community activities. The project will also help safeguard a welcoming space where existing and future generations can connect, learn and thrive.
